About beach Volleyball

Born in 1920 on the beaches of Santa Monica (CA) and
Brazil it took the sport 7 years to also appear in Europe
for the first time. It quickly became, just like surfing,
a kind of lifestyle distinctively linked to sand, beach and
music. Only few other sports could unite fun, athleticism
and body cult in the way Beach Volleyball did.
In 1950 the first Beach Volleyball Tournament took place in
California, where 30 years ago its success story set off.
Nowadays the World Championships are hosted periodically in
Europe. In 1996 Beach Volleyball became an Olympic discipline”
and from that point on, especially at the 2000 Olympics in
Sydney, fascinates an ever-growing fan base.
Its main asset is its simplicity. The only things necessary
to set up a game are 2 teams, sand and a net. The ball itself
may be passed up to 3 times and then must be passed on to
the other side of the net. Also, it’s allowed to play
the ball with any part of the body.
